Jean Picton paints the lush, beautiful flowers that have become her trademark, as a symbol of the hope that she is compelled to feel when she considers the state of the world. Life erupts even in the bleakest corner and this resilience gives Jean much comfort. Life goes on...

This amazingly prolific Artist has led the most extraordinary life so far. Jean Picton was born in 1934, and after joining a circus at the age of 14, started her theatrical career. She toured the UK’s variety theatres in the 1950s and, in 1954 became one of the famous Windmill Girls at Soho’s Windmill Theatre, working with such greats as Harry Secombe and Bruce Forsyth. In the 1970s and 80s, she went on to appear regularly on television in the USA and at home, in series such as Hi-de-Hi! and EastEnders.
After her TV acting career there was a a spell running her own production company until, in 1990, she retired and began painting seriously and has gone on to exhibit her paintings in the UK and beyond.

In 2002 she achieved a Fine Art Batchelors Degree with Honours from the University of Hertfordshire as well as a Design Diploma from Central St. Martins’ College in London. She is now a respected Art Tutor in her own right and, until very recently, ran the oversubscribed ‘Art Menorca’ painting holidays. Jean is extremely well represented by several well-known Galleries and we are pleased to be able to include her work in our portfolio.
