John Trickett

Born in Sheffield , England , John Trickett spent most of his early life in Cleethorpes. Always inclined towards painting, art was definitely not encouraged at home, and on leaving school he started to train as an accountant. An offer to play professional football soon diverted him and he spent some time playing for Torquay before turning to painting, full time.
Despite having to learn with no formal art training, Trickett was soon painting very acceptable paintings and has now incontestably established himself as a very fine artist.
When the "Shooting Times" declared John Trickett as the "finest Labrador painter in England , if not the world", they were really echoing the thoughts of many before and many since. Indeed, when Franklin Mint of America published several of his paintings on limited edition plates in 1996, they repeated the fact that he is one of the finest painters of labradors in the world.
It was, of course, with a labrador painting that he won the silver medal in the International Animal Painters competition in France . This is the only time his work has been put forward for a public exhibition and this only because Sally Mitchell entered the picture without his knowledge. In 1996 he was featured in an article on leading dog artists in "Gundogs" magazine.
Trickett is a natural colorist with a great eye for composition and fell for atmosphere. These are qualities that have come from within and have not been influenced by art college. Indeed, the first time his publisher, Sally Mitchell met John Trickett she asked if he had been to art school. He replied that he had. The second time she met him he was with his wife and Sally asked, on this occasion, which art school he had been to. His wife exclaimed, "Oh John, you didnt say you went to art school! You were only there for a morning, you left at lunchtime!".
Many limited edition prints have been published after his work and have rapidly become collectors items. He has collectors all over the world and his works hang in Japan , America , Australia and many European countries.
