Art on Exmoor since 1893
Suzanne Metz was born and raised in South Africa. She received her bachelors degree in fine arts in 1980 from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She also completed a two-year diploma in interior design at the College of Art in Johannesburg.
Suzanne immigrated to Canada in 1986 and has worked as an art teacher and artist while raising three daughters. She teaches both children and adults in her home studio as well as in continuing education. Suzanne has been practicing as a professional artist for over 25 years and exhibits and sells her work both locally and internationally.
Suzannes work focuses on the human form the form being interwoven within her pieces either in a semi-realistic fashion or in an expressive and abstract manner. She works on paper and canvas, incorporating various types of dry media mixed within her use of acrylic paint. Her work exhibits a palette of earthy, warm tones a direct influence from her South African background. Of late her colour has become more vibrant and pure, with elements of collage and calligraphy interwoven throughout her multimedia work, adding new depths to her pieces. Graffiti and pure abstraction is a derivative of late for her new pieces, expressive not only through colour, but as well through imagery and symbolism.
