Ken Devine

Ken Devine

Ken Devine is a self-taught Artist who was born, bred and eventually spat out of Sunderland's harsh East-End, before landing softly for some education at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School in the luxurious grounds of Gatton Park, Reigate, Surrey. Ken Devine's transition was made possible by a grant from the local council in recognition of artistic talent. It was his rendition of an ocean-going liner that caught their eye…the only one he ever painted!

On leaving school Ken experienced a brief period of time back in his native Northeast working as a display Artist (window dresser), followed by a spell of 'wandering' before eventually settling down to study for a Bed (hons) at Nottingham Trent Polytechnic. Devine never finished the course, opting instead to plan, with his wife Bev, to open their own gallery and framing workshop in the thriving village of Ruddington in rural Nottinghamshire.

Although becoming one of the first picture framers in Great Britain to qualify as a Guild Commended Framer (GCF), Ken Devine's heart was still with his original intention, and, after framing pictures for more than fifteen years, sold the shop to achieve his childhood ambition…to be a full time Artist.

Ken Devine was originally drawn to the likes of Van Gogh, Munnings and Seago; but these days gains his inspiration from sunny days and visiting galleries to see the modern day masters…'there are some fantastic Artists out there'.
