Art on Exmoor since 1893
Robin Says:
I was born in 1962 and studied graphic design. I have been working as a professional artist since 1987. My work was previously exhibited in my own dedicated galleries in Guildford, Surrey, England (1987-2012) and Kings Road, Chelsea, England (2000-2005). In 2012 I decided to spend more time dealing with clients individually rather than in a retail gallery environment. I supplied galleries throughout the UK and the US (1990-2010) and exhibited at art fairs; London (Design Centre), Manchester, Dublin, Newcastle and the Affordable Art Fair, as well as the New York Art Expo.
As I have said I now like to interact with each client on a one to one basis. Everything I create is a one off I am not keen on prints they work well in some cases but although people have tried they have been unable to produce a reasonable copy of one of my pieces. Time moves on fast and I found myself unable to cope with the amount of requests I was receiving. During my time in my gallery space I was a master framer. I still find it hard to let go so every morning at five I prepare canvasses for the forthcoming projects.
I save some money by buying in bulk that way you can buy the best materials for a small percentage more than basic materials. I have my paints made every 3 months and alter the tones to keep my work fresh. At each stage there is only me. When it comes to the work I employ no-one else now. It is much simpler.
I paint every day of the year and have done for over 25 years. I am well practised in listening to people and putting what is in my head onto canvas.I enjoy my work.
